An air fryer makes crispy and delicious pita chips, without much oil. Seasoned with pantry spices, these homemade snacks are sure to disappear quick. Serve with dip or crumble over salad. A crowd pleaser. (Vegan, Gluten Free option)
Prep pita: Tear the pitas into bite-sized pieces (about 1.5 inches/4 cm) and add them to a large bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and toss to coat.
Season pita: Sprinkle the spices (oregano, smoked paprika, garlic and onion powder) and salt over the pita chips. Toss well to coat.
Bake pita: Spread the seasoned pita chips in an air fryer basket. Bake in an air fryer at 350°F (177°C) for 5 minutes (no need to preheat). Shake the basket and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown. Taste and season the hot pita chips with more salt if needed.
Notes
Pita: You can use regular or whole grain pita. Choose gluten-free if needed.
Dried oregano tip: Crush the dried oregano between your fingertips as you add it to the bowl. This helps "wake up" the dried herb, by releasing some of the oil and enhancing the flavor.
Serving suggestions: These homemade pita chips can be paired with dip (such as Greek Yogurt Onion Dip, Creamy White Bean Dip, or Vegan Tzatziki) and veggies. Pita chips are also a great addition to salads—crumble them on top for texture and crunch.
Storage tips: These pita chips are best enjoyed day-of, but you can store extras in an airtight container or freezer bag for 1 to 2 days.
